Director Induction is often poorly executed by boards despite the best of intentions. The common approach to induction often includes a weighty package of information including the organisation's vision, mission, strategic plan, business plan, board governance pack, board policies, director insurance, payment details and so on. Whilst this information is vital and necessary, Reposition employs a holistic process that also introduces the new director to the organisation's culture, behaviours, values and links the the inductee with an existing board member and ensures that the new incumbent has a program of pre and post board meeting sessions with their buddy. The process is staged and time investment to induct a new director is substantially longer than the more common 'tick and flick' checklist approach, however this investment will pay significant dividends and ensure the new director rapidly becomes productive and adds value in a much shorter timeframe and avoids the problem that faces many boards where there are emergent behaviour issues or a poor personality 'fit' which are difficult to address once the new director joins the board unless there are formal and informal review processes built into the program.

Based on the theory of cognitive behaviour: behaviour that results from a process of reasoning being able to judge and reason effectively and having a perception of surroundings. Reposition uses the theory of cognitive behaviour and combines the proven success of ‘simulation’ to bring about new ways of thinking and behaviour that is desired by the participant.

At Reposition, we invert the picture of traditional organisational structure. We see the pivotal role of the board and the senior executive team is at the base of the pyramid! In our view they are the critical and underpinning foundation for their organisation and provide the core strength and stability for their staff, customers and entire stakeholder community.

Once we shift the focus from top down to bottom up, the perspective changes from a control down model to a servant /leader philosophy where the board is focused on their mission (end goal) and the organic role they play in setting the inspirational tone and the culture of earned respect and trust within their organisation.

There is a plethora of governance consultants offering their services to assist boards and organisations with rules, manuals and checklists and even more has been written in the form of books and articles about the need, importance and implementation of governance policies, practices, processes and procedures. The examples of exemplar governance processes of such firms as HIH, Enron, WorldCom and so on, highlights the fact that simply having all the governance policies and procedures in place doesn't protect or ensure organisations will succeed. Reposition chooses to target the behaviours and culture of organisations in relation to governance and work with boards and executive teams to strengthen and increase their own sense of clarity of purpose, achievement and pleasure from working with the company. When boards and executives enjoy their work, trust themselves and others, and gain meaning from it, then organisations flourish good governance flows naturally and seamlessly and employees and stakeholders recognise. Behaviours and culture is contagious.

There can be no argument that the board must possess great wisdom, courage and clarity of purpose and provide each other with tremendous trust and respect; if one or more directors falter and that trust is undermined and goes unchecked then the board will become unstable and the executive and the rest of the organisation will feel more and more insecure the longer it persists and if not corrected, ultimately the structure will become disabled or even collapse completely.
